Wars – “And So The Sea Will Claim Us” [EP] [Album Review]
Despite only being in their infancy, UK hardcore boys Wars have indicated that they’re very much heading in the right direction. Read our review of their EP here.
It’s hard to believe that UK hardcore chaps Wars are still a relatively new band, such is the quality displayed on their debut EP And So The Sea Will Claim Us. That being said, it’s also easy to see why there is such a buzz building in the UK press around the group.
Atmospheric hardcore would be the best way to describe the sounds that come crashing out of your speakers as “Gamblers Ruin” kicks this EP off in fine style. Swathes of soothing, calming sounds fill the air before the sound descends into a wall of jarring, intense guitars. The rest of the EP follows a similar pattern – soothing sounds, abrasive guitars, throat-ripping vocals – yes, it’s a formula that will be familiar to anybody who has followed the UK circuit over the past few years but, in Wars, we have one of the better examples of how powerful, emotional, and passionate this genre can be.
Obvious points of call in terms of musical direction would be bands like Architects and (Sempiteral-era) Bring Me The Horizon so, despite being in their infancy, Wars are most definitely heading in the right direction and, having given us a taste of what they can offer, it’ll be interesting to see where their powerful, multi-layered sound will go.
