King Hitter – “King Hitter” [EP] [Album Review]

Former Corrosion Of Conformity frontman Karl Agell returns with a new band who, on the evidence of these first recordings from the band, are well and truly going to kick some serious ass!

“This has got some serious Corrosion Of Conformity ties…” I’m told by our esteemed Publisher as this five track mini-album is thrust in my direction for review, and he’s not wrong! Featuring the vocal talents of Karl Agell, former frontman for the aforementioned riff-merchants on their legendary Blind album, King Hitter is his new project and this five-track effort is the first fruits of the project.

A big, lumbering riff kicks off the title track of this self-titled mini-album. Part hard rock, part grunge, part metal, King Hitter (the album and the band) stinks of attitude. This is quite simply bad-ass rock n’ roll that is far cooler than you or I will EVER be! I’ve seen them compared to Down, I’ve seen them compared to Corrosion Of Conformity, I’ve even seen them compared to the Foo Fighters, and while songs like “Drone Again” have elements of all those bands, they add their own signature stamp that makes this a truly special listen.

At five tracks long this mini-album can only really be seen as a teaser for what is to come, but what a taste of the future it is. He’s been away from the scene for far too long but King Hitter sees Agell return to the limelight with a band that are going to leave your asses well and truly kicked!

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
