Wild Throne – “Blood Maker” [EP] [Album Review]
From the almost Gaelic introduction to “The Wrecking Ball Unchained” that leads to a pulsating Red Fang-esq riff and semi Bruce Dickenson vocals (but with a somehow more guttural edge, a growling knife point if you wish), Wild Throne seek to subvert your sense of hearing with their powerfully noise-ridden elegance.

“Shadow Deserts” presents an almost semi industrialised and instantly abrasive attack on the ears, whereas the final track “Blood Maker”, is an outwardly simple yet extremely fierce and veracious track melding multiple genres into a single hulking and growling epos.
In saying all of this; however, Wild Throne don’t really sit well with me, unfortunately. I’m not much for the constantly vocalised harmonies at play here (as I am not in most bands to be brutally honest). I think generally and overall they detract from what is actually a good, if brief, 3 track debut.
Musically Wild Throne are very tight, from the almost “lead” drums reverberating through your frontal lobe to the eschewed and distorted guitars and onto the macerating bass. Wild Throne are a lot like The Mars Volta (I was always more inclined to Sparta if I am honest), British Band, One Minute Silence, with defiant “new-age Prog-Rock Red Fang” and their ilk tones. Blood Maker is a solid debut EP; some work to do, but still I sense there is enough energy to develop and offer many an antagonistic salvo in the future.
