Recently guitarist Mike Bartak gave us the lowdown on his fave piece of gear, his Mesa Boogie MK3.
What one piece of equipment do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Mike: The biggest factor in my sound is definitely my amplifier(s). I use a Mesa Boogie MK3 and a Mesa Boogie 2 Channel Dual Rectifier. My primary amp is the Mark3.
What about it makes it so important to you?
Mike: They don’t even make this amp anymore (not for a long time). Durability: other than the occasional tube change, I’ve never had one problem… and I’ve dropped it many times. It’s a beast!
What are the major pros and cons?
Mike: The best thing about this amp is the graphic EQ. It allows you to really dial in that beefy low end crunch I love, and it’s louder than shit. I don’t think I’ve ever turned the volume knob past 2 without killing some ears. There are NO cons to this amp!
How long have you used this piece of equipment and would you ever change it?
Mike: I’ve been using this amp for over 10 years. It’s a permanent fixture in my arsenal.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear?
Mike: Mesa Boogie continues to crank out the best fucking amps on the planet. It’s all personal taste, but for me they’re the only amps I use.
