Morbid Saint – “Spectrum of Death”

Morbid Saint’s Spectrum of Death is another one of those “classic” 80s underground metal albums that die-hard metal fans apparently wet their pants over. I’ve often found that when I’ve sought out these kinds of albums they usually end up being major disappointments. Generally the albums feature horrible production and sub-par playing. Morbid Saint’s Spectrum of Death however, is well-deserving of high praise.

The disc was originally released in 1988 and will put a smile on any thrash fan’s face. The band have some tight, thrashy songs that absolutely kill. It’s a wonder that these guys never even made it anywhere close to the Big 4 of thrash with songs like these: the songs are tight and fast like a cross between early Slayer and Megadeth. Yeah, the production is atrocious, but crank up a track like “Assassin” and just try to NOT bang your head like it’s 1988 all over again. Definitely recommended for fans of any of the Big 4’s 1980s output.
