Album Review
Decaying – “Encirclement”
Encirclement is the sophomore release from Finnish death metal act Decaying. This is definitely a serious death metal offering; It’s brash, guttural and extremely powerful, yet manages to maintain a bit of melody and a fair amount of groove. The thing I like the most about this release (and the band in general) are the heavy doom metal influences and overtones that seep into almost every song.

This slowed down, gloomy, pounding really adds another dimension to their sound that I think really makes them unique. Don’t get the wrong idea though because while there is a definite doom thing going on, the record as a whole is quite a fast and furious affair; a virtual battering ram upside the skull.
At the end of the day I think Encirclement is a fantastic release that has a lot to offer metal fans of all genres. I can honestly say this one is well worth checking out!
