Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Monarchy of Roses” [Song Review]
“Monarchy of Roses” is the lead-off track from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ brand new album, I’m With You, and it’s also now the second single. The first single “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” was yet another number one single for the Peppers so selecting a second single was probably not a very easy task (when you’re trying to follow it up with something equally as good).

“Monarchy of Roses” is definitely a great album starter as drummer Chad Smith first builds momentum before some distorted Anthony Kiedis vocals chime in, followed by the guitar and bass kicking in at full gear. Distorted vocals is not something you often hear from Kiedis and it’s definitely a cool effect that doesn’t sound out of place. It’s one of the funkier songs off the record, something that should please old-school fans. Smith really carries this song with some absolutely stellar drumming which is nice considering that Flea’s bass often gets top billing. This track is overall a great effort from all four members and it should do well to remind fans that the band does still have some gas left in the tank.
