Murderdolls – “Women and Children Last”
Eight years since their debut album, Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordinson have finally reunited their horror-punk outfit Murderdolls. After a 6 year hiatus working on various projects (Wednesday as a solo artist and Jordinson fulfilling his duties as Slipknot’s drummer), the two have come together to create Women and Children Last.
Eight years since their debut album, Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison have finally reunited their horror-punk outfit Murderdolls. After a 6 year hiatus working on various projects (Wednesday as a solo artist and Jordison fulfilling his duties as Slipknot’s drummer), the two have come together to create Women and Children Last.
Women and Children Last contains songs surrounding themes found in horror movies all sung over some kick-ass rock’n’roll. There is no shortage of guts, gore, death, graveyards, corpses, zombies and hardcore on this release. The disc is filled with black humour, dark imagery, fast metal riffs and infectious, repetitive hooks. It displays Jordinson’s versatility as he not only shows off his great guitar skills, but also his undeniable drum talents (he played drums for the album’s studio recordings).
Each tune is a unique combination of ‘80s glam meets horror rock and deservedly, many fans have described the band as if Motley Crue and the Misfits were thrown together in a blender. The band furthers this comparison by having legendary Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars perform guest appearances on “Drug Me to Hell” and “Blood Stained Valentine.”
This album is horror-punk perfection. With Wednesday’s raspy, grimy voice and brilliant black-humoured lyricism and Jordinson’s outstanding musicianship, they are a match made in hell. Let’s just hope they don’t keep us waiting another eight years for a third release. [ END ]
