Album Review
HELLYEAH – “Stampede”
Stampede is the sophomore release from the super group, HELLYEAH. A band composed some of the biggest names in metal including: Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damage Plan), Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett (Mudvayne), Tom Maxwell (Nothingface) and Bob Zilla (Damage Plan). This new record is a gritty, unpretentious southern metal disc that begs to be played loud… very loud.

While I feel every song on this record seriously kicks ass, (they generally contain a catchy hook and enough swagger to satisfy even the most discriminate listener), there were a few that I found myself listening to repeatedly. The opener “Cowboy Way” is one of those tunes. From the very first note the heavy groove seeps into your soul and becomes so infectious, you cannot help but be drawn into it.
“Alive And Well” is another one of those songs, but for a different reason. This song works of a great riff that just hits you over the head like a ton of bricks, forcing you to take notice and compelling you to bang your head. Even the slowed down acoustic tune “Better Man” is quite good as well. Yes, it is a bit on the lighter, more commercial side of things, but it is easy to see this tune lighting up the all request lines at your local rock station and gaining the band a ton of attention.
As one would expect from musicians with this kind of pedigree, this is a good record and metal heads everywhere will not want to miss it. [ END ]
