Jackyl – “When Moonshine and Dynamite Collide”
If you know anything at all about music from the 90’s then you have certainly heard of Jackyl. The band topped the charts with songs that essentially helped define the pop-metal genre and helped solidify them as true superstars. Fronted by an over the top, larger than life frontman with a uniquely raspy voice, Jesse James Dupree, tunes such as “Lumberjack” and “Down On Me” dominated the airwaves and were huge hits in the rock clubs all across the country.

Jackyl recently released their latest CD, When Moonshine and Dynamite Collide. As you might expect, there are big sing along choruses combined with fun, often tongue-in-cheek lyrical content that makes this an extremely entertaining disc.
Tracks that stand out as favorites of mine are “My Moonshine Kicks Your Cocaine’s Ass,” “The Overflow Of Love” and the opening tune “Loads Of Fun.” All three of which are good, solid rocking tunes that stay true to the band’s roots.
I must also make note of the old classic Janis Joplin song, “Mercedes Benz” that is included on this disc. Dupree’s gravelly, raspy voice is perfectly suited to this tune and the final result is quite stunning – it caught me by surprise, but I really liked it.
While When Moonshine and Dynamite Collide, does not reinvent the wheel, it is a good record and it should be a favorite for the scores of fans out there who either grew up listening to these guys or like their music more along the commercial lines. This is good old fashioned fun music meant to be cranked up and enjoyed with your friends. Pick this one up, kick back, crank it up and crack a beer. [ END ]
