Album Review
Arbiter – “Colossus”
Colossus is the newest release from technical deathcore band Arbiter. This disc is an exceptionally heavy, tremendously powerful metal album that kicks some serious tail and takes no prisoners. Start to finish Arbiter deliver the goods in a huge way. If you are a fan of deathcore or death metal get your appetites whet and prepare for an unforgettable listen.
After a brief intro, “Premonitions,” Arbiter comes out of the box with both barrels a-blazin’. “Deadfall” gets things going quite quickly and from then on the disc does not let up. Try as I might there is no filler to be found here, just pure raw metal that is sure to satisfy bangers everywhere. My two favorite tracks are the previously mentioned “Deadfall” and “What We Have,” both of which are completely unbelievable, punishingly good deathcore tunes.
Perhaps what makes Colossus stand out so strongly from the hordes of other similar artists flooding the genres, is its magnificent production. Each song is distinctive and well balanced, but together they still manage to be part of an extremely cohesive package. In my opinion, many death metal bands release albums that are cluttered and/or incredibly muddy and difficult to listen to. This is not the case with Colossus; heavy and brutal as it may be, the production really shines through.
At the end of the day, I feel this is a very good record from a band we will certainly hear more from in the very near future. I feel that Colossus breathes fresh air back into an otherwise cookie cutter scene. I would advise you to quickly quit reading this article and go grab a copy of this album; you won’t be disappointed. It is really good! [ END ]
