Ted Nugent – “Motor City Mayhem” [LIVE]

The Motor City Madman is the embodiment of good old blues driven Rock & Roll. I have had the opportunity to see Uncle Ted live on many occasions over the years and honestly, there is nothing quite like it. The energy, unbelievable playing and the incredible sarcastic wit of Nugent creates a night you won’t soon forget.

All of this energy and passion is captured on this two-disc set. From the opening intro all the way through the “Outro,” there is nothing but a good time. You will laugh at his lyrical wit, his playing will amaze you and most of all you will be entertained for almost two hours. As one would expect all of the classic, essential Nugent is included here. Tunes such as “Wango Tango,” “Free For All” and “Cat Scratch Fever” may be decades old but they do not sound dated or stale at all. Honestly in the live setting they are vibrant, fresh and ballsier than they have ever been.

It is quite amazing to me that after forty years in the business Nugent is still going strong and better than ever. I have never really been a fan of live discs mainly because I feel that the energy of a live show is most often lost in translation. I feel it is a difficult feat to release a live record that is fully engaging; if not careful, it could become a self-indulgent vanity project that leaves the listener bored after a few minutes. Motor City Mayhem is different. I think its success is due to not only the incredible playing of Nugent, but also to the fact that it was recorded in Nugent’s hometown on the 4th of July and the energy so palpable I felt I was part of the audience.

Bottom line, Motor City Mayhem is a fantastic collection of essential Nugent and a disc that should not be missed, it really is that good.  [ END ]
