Kottonmouth Kings – “The Green Album” [Album Review]
If you enjoy listening to fun rap and hip hop this is a good record to purchase, but if you want something with a bit of substance then stay well, well away.

Kottonmouth Kings… the aging… never changing… hip hop band from Orange County, California. They’ve been around for 15 years and sadly, their age shows. Although their music is fun and bouncy, when you’ve got 30-something rappers still blabbing on about how they “don’t give a fuck” and “no one rocks like us” it’s quite frankly, a little embarrassing. The fact that you have to put up with it for over an hour and fifteen minutes means it can be, an unbearable listen. If the album had been even just 15 minutes shorter it might have been a slightly more attractive record.
At first, I found it funny and although the lyrics were extremely cheesy, I still enjoyed the record. There were actually a few nice beats throughout the album, with a punk rock song thrown in every now and then, which although added a bit of variety, did seem a little odd.
Overall, the music and lyrics are extremely outdated. There are a few moments of quality which prove that deep down, this band could have some sort of purpose in today’s hip hop scene. Even though they don’t have many casual listeners, I was surprised to find they had so many hardcore, committed fans, because by all accounts, they’ve been churning out the same songs for the last 15 years.
If you enjoy listening to fun rap and hip hop this is a good record to purchase, but if you want something with a bit of substance then stay well, well away.
