Album Review
Cobra Starship
¡Viva La Cobra! (10.23.2007)
You really can’t hate Cobra Starship; they take cheap shots at everything that’s wrong with life and Hollywierd and make it funny. Moreover, the music in and of itself is fun. Take for example the album opener with its catchy electro pop type sensibility that first gets you hooked. Additionally, the second track, “Guilty Pleasure” features a great synch hook; everything about this album is up beat and pure fun.
Masterfully produced by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, and not to mention that the album was written while Cobra Starship was on tour with said band, Stump’s influence really shines through with the harmonies on “One Day, Robots Will Cry”. The whole album is quite different from anything else on the Decaydence/Fueled by Ramen labels. It’s Gabe Saporta’s alter ego shining through ever so brightly right from the Album cover.
Sometimes I wonder about the crap that is playing on the radio, and I’m baffled by the fact that a song like “Kiss My Sass” wasn’t even given a shot. Hello people!? No wonder the industry and radio are failing.
This whole album is catchy, and gets you in the mood to have a great time. “Dam you look good and I’m drunk”. Honestly, and no offense, this song sounds like a high school musical track, I think it’s gold! It’s hard to take this album seriously, but you can’t help the youthful essence and shamelessness that it brings, it’s a gift to be this awesome. [ END ]
