Opiate For The Masses

Manifesto (07.08.2008)

With the release of their second CD, Manifesto, industrial metal band Opiate For The Masses is proving that they can stand out in an alternative music scene that has become progressively more more crowded and diluted with average run of the mill acts. Opiate For The Masses is an unexpected cure for the apathy that has crept into the music scene. Carefully sculpted songs that set no limitations move between metal and new wave effortlessly and seamlessly. The band is looking to cement themselves firmly in the industrial scene and prove their passion and capabilities for writing fantastic music.

Tracks that are personal favorites of mine are “21st Century Time Bomb,” which starts things off with a jolt, immediately greeting the listener with a mesmerizing groove that will suck them in and not let go. “Hold On” is built around a simple but very catchy riff that will have you banging your head in no time at all. The band even includes a rousing rendition of the Portishead song “Wandering Star” and true to themselves they make it their own.

Overall, Manifesto is a good record, albeit all too short (clocking in at just over 40 minutes), and fans of industrial and or new wave music will not be disappointed in the least. These guys are serious about what they do and it shows.  [ END ]
