Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford (09.23.2008)

Everlast’s Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford is an edgy, hip hop mix that leaves the listener wanting more. It is an eclectic mix of sounds, meaningful rhymes and fun tunes. An acoustic song on Everlast’s album would be random, but it does work with the flow of the songs. Hip hop beats are a big part of most of the songs.

While the sounds on the album vary, so do the lyrics. Not all of the lyrics are a statement about politics or life, there are some that are for fun, like the song “Die in Your Arms Tonight.” The song “Kill the Emperor” addresses shitty politicians and the sate of the world without being whiny. His cover of “Folsom Prison Blues” is also really good because he made it his own instead of trying to mimic Johnny Cash. It’s catchy and cool.

Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford is fun to listen to; it is a multi-listen type of album. It is hard to get sick of it fast because it is such a mix of different songs. This album is great mix of sounds and the work of a talented artist. I was pumped to get it in the mail on a crappy winter day and it was totally worth listening to. Metal head or not, keep an open mind and give this disc a spin.  [ END ]
