Album Review
Of The First Born Son
Self-Titled (2007)
Attention metalcore fans: I would like to introduce Of The First Born Son. And I am damn proud to say that they are Canadian, right out of Kitchener, Ontario. This band prepares to take the world head-on, one town at a time. With the release of their self-titled debut EP, the band is only that much closer to taking over the world with their insane melodies.
The first track on the five-song EP is “The Attack of Dr. Robotnik”, which kicks ass, especially because I’ve always been a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan. The guitar riffs contain the usual breakdowns and palm mutes associated with metalcore, but with a hint of southern hardcore. The drumming is insanely tight throughout the entire track, as is the bass.
The band’s most popular track is “You Can’t 2-Step In A Wheelchair”. Just the title alone is such a shocker that it’s no wonder why the track is so popular. The rhythm has an amazing groove to it; I caught myself bobbing along with every beat. During the breakdown, the vocalist utters a fucking SICK pig squeal. The note caught me so off guard I actually yelled, “Oh damn!”
The EP was fairly well done. The only part that could have been worked on was the recording quality; the music was a bit quiet and fuzzy. Regardless, this band still kicks ass. [ END ]
