Evergreen Terrace

Wolfbiker (2007)

Too many bands sound similar or have the same style nowadays. Unfortunately, Evergreen Terrace is no exception to this trend. Their latest album, Wolfbiker, has nothing new to offer. The album is very linear, displaying the band’s reluctance to move forward and evolve.

The majority of the album has a pop-punk feel to it, with a touch of metal. The metal influence is only present in a few tracks, and isn’t very noticeable; however, when the band brings out their metal side they pull it off quite nicely. The drums are the most basic drums I have heard since blink-182.

Most albums have a certain theme, which could be anything from a particular lyrical structure, drum pattern, or concept that ties everything on an album together. The only theme I could pick out on Wolfbiker is the emo theme of pain and depression. Even the album artwork was poorly done. The cover is supposed to be a wolf snarling, but resembles a furry pug dog with a squashed-in face and poorly drawn fangs.

The disc did have a few tracks that stood out above the rest, namely “Bad Energy Troll” and “Rip This!”. There is a lot of screaming throughout these two tracks, but the vocalist is moderately monotonous. The clean vocals used on most of the other tracks resemble that of Brandon Saller (Atreyu) on mushrooms: not a very good combination.

This album will do nothing more than take up space in my CD collection. The disappointment factor with Wolfbiker was unbelievably large. [END]
