Fear Blind
Step Inside (2007)
The first thought that popped into my mind when I put Fear Blind’s debut EP into my laptop and pressed the magical “play” button was, “Incubus cover band.” Step Inside seems to be heavily influenced by Incubus. Brent Wheeler’s vocal style is unmistakably similar to Brandon Boyd’s (Incubus). I am unsure if I feel this is either a positive or negative on the band: the unoriginality is a negative, but the vocals are pleasing to the ear, so it is also a positive aspect.
When you digress from Wheeler’s vocals and focus on the instrumentation, you will find, once again, it resembles that of Incubus: boring and dull; nothing sticks out. The drums are mediocre at best, and the bass guitars are likely to put me to sleep.
I am unable to pick a favourite track, or something remotely close to a decent sounding song on Fear Blind’s debut EP.
I was disappointed to see that one of the bands I had heard positive remarks about had turned out to be nothing out of the ordinary. If you enjoy Incubus or Staind, I would suggest picking Fear Blind’s Step Inside, but be warned: you will not find anything you won‘t hear from any other garage band. [ END ]
