Album Review
Faber Drive
Seven Second Surgery (2007)
Anyone that works in the fabulous world of retail would know the music that comes with the territory. Most of it is the stuff that makes you want to pull your hair out and/or have hearing loss for the day. Yup, it’s that bad. However, I have learned that in order to spend my Saturdays in the nuthouse (a.k.a. the mall) I must brace myself for it by listening to music during the drive there that will ease my ears into the pain of bubblegum pop and disco. Pop-punk is perfect medication. It’s catchy, easy to sing along to, and let’s you know that you’re not the only one miserable about being on the bottom of the economic food chain. Faber Drive has been in my CD player all weekend, and I haven’t got sick of it… yet.
Faber Drive’s melodic, upbeat punk music sounds like Simple Plan, but with fewer voice cracks. That’s not to say that Simple Plan is bad – Faber Drive just has more mature lyrics and sound. It’s what the “I’m Just a Kid” fans listen to when they grow up.
Like many Canadian musicians, they are quite talented. Hopefully they will stick around long enough to put out a second album. [ END ]
