As of late there have been quite a few bands being formed from members of other bands, take for example Chrome Division. I is another one of those “super-bands” consisting of members from Immortal, Gorgoroth, SAHG, and Enslaved. This Norwegian Black Metal band tears apart the paths of the former bands, and scrambles them all into one big chaotic mess of awesomeness. The band consists of Abbath (vocals/guitar), Ice Dale (guitar), TC King (bass), and Armagedda (drums).
First up on the new album Between Two Worlds is “The Storm I Ride.” This newly formed super-band takes metal to the next level, combining classic riffs with modern, epic arrangements, evolving Black Metal forever. The track “The Storm I Ride” has a bit of a melodic feel about it, but also has a grungy, violent touch to it, grabbing the listener by the back of the head and smashing it against a table.
Third on the album is “Between Two Worlds.” Yes I’m sure all of you thought, “Hey that’s the name of the album!” Well congratulations, you’re right. Abbath’s dark, rough voice sent chills up my spine when he let out his first blood-curdling growl, and my hairs stood on end. Armagedda’s drums are insane, maintaining the tempo and rhythm the entire time, without any juggling.
Sixth on the album is “Days of North Winds.” I loved the intro to this track. With the band touching back to a bit of the Immortal roots, this track is darker and more brutal than most of the songs on the disc. Although the track did remind me a whole lot of Immortal, it also somewhat sparked memories of older In Flames. The rhythm guitar in this song is unbelievable, and could knock the wind out of just about anybody.
To conclude this review and these wonderful recordings, I’d like to give my regards to the band. Great job guys! For your hard work and great success I give this album an 8.0/10. [ END ]
