Album Review
Index Case
Self-Titled (2005)
Who knew that in a state such as Iowa more than Slipknot and cows could prosper! In a city where the people seem to eerily worship cows (I know from experience, for I was recently in this lovely city); a new idol is slowly emerging onto the scene in the form of a band known as Index Case. Index Case consist of; Joe Ansley (vocals), Josh Parker (guitar), Ryan Berrier (drums), and Nick Borror (bass). Their self titled CD was released September 27th, 2005, and is a unique blend of haunting vocals and intricate riffs that bring to life the defiantly obscured lyrical styling of Joe Ansley.
Between the vocals and the music, there doesn’t seem to be a dull moment in the 42 minutes and 32 seconds of listening time. That being said, I do have to warn listeners that Ansley isn’t the most talented person vocally. He does however, seem to give it his all; and to see them live and their energy on stage, it is forgivable, at least in my book, that vocals are not a rating of ten out of ten.
And honestly, everyone can admit that there’s that one band, that even though the singer isn’t worth the $9.99 they spent on the CD, there is just something about the band that makes it all worth while; and I am admitting it about this band! Give Ansley a few more years on the road and he will be worth every cent spent on him. His voice will grow, the band will grow, and together they will be ‘the band.’
On a rating of one to ten, I’d have to say they are an eight. They are heavy musically but not a CD I would listen to, to get pumped up. The music is more melodic and dark than it is up beat and “hey, let’s mosh” type music. Though at the same time, the music does have enough influence to get one’s head moving. The fellas reside in Indianola, Iowa and appear to have a very steady following, to the point of almost thriving in this city.
As that is a ‘duh’ factor, being their home town and all; what’s not so well known is, Index Case is doing well, outside of Iowa. Certain parts of the country like that of Columbus, Ohio and Wisconsin, have come to think of Index Case as one of their own and love having the guys end a night of local music or opening a night of nationals. Soon though, I have a feeling that they will no longer be the opener, but the main band that everyone has paid to see. Anyone want to make a wager? Give it time; they are on the road up.
Index Case is now represented by Mortal Music and managed by True Player Entertainment. For more information about Mortal Music go to: www.mortal-music.com and for more information about Index Case, who are now currently touring, go to: www.indexcase.com, or www.myspace.com/indexcase. [ END ]
