ZZ Top barnstormed into the Bell Centre in Montreal on November 7th, 2012 delivering their own version of Southern Fried rock with precision to a welcoming crowd. Biggest cheers were, of course, reserved for their ’80s triple crown of “Sharped Dressed Man”, “Legs” and “Gimme All Your Lovin'”.

This disc was recorded back in 1980 at the Grugahalle in Essen for a German TV series called Rockpalast and captures the legendary, larger-than-life trio at the height of their career. The band kick off the night with the bluesy, “El Deguello” and things quickly get rolling from there with a set list that includes such early hits as “Cheap Sunglasses,” “Tush” and a very cool rendition of “Jail House Rock.” This is rock and roll the way it is meant to be played, gritty and unpretentious with a significant heavy blues/southern rock…

Fans of the ZZ Top, the legendary rock band from the state of Texas, rejoice. Double Down Live is what I would consider a definitive must-have DVD for your collection. The music business is notoriously hard to survive in and many groups that manage to carry on almost always undergo some sort of personnel change throughout the years.
