Last Friday night brought American progressive metal bands Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Polyphia, and Toothgrinder to a sold-out Opera House in Toronto.
It was an early beginning for most metalheads as the openers Toothgrinder took the stage at 7:30 followed by the instrumental progressive metal band Polyphia. Both did a great job of getting fans pumped for the main act though. Once The Contortionist started their set, the mosh pit was in full circle mode, along with a few surfers off to the sides.
Finally, Between The Buried And Me hit the stage with the crowd chanting BTBAM and thrusting fists and devil horns in the air. Blinding flashes of strobes, amidst a wash of red and blue lights, made it difficult even to see the band. This didn’t seem to make a difference to the fans tonight in the testosterone-filled venue. Everyone seemed to just be mesmerized by the rib cage-rattling bass lines.
