Deathsticks – “Buzzkill” [Song Review]
The latest single from Ontario duo Deathsticks revs into sludgy, psyched-out-of-the-mind grunge, slamming into life like parachuting two grams of MDMA and walking down the street waiting for the kick.
The latest single (free download here) from Ontario duo Deathsticks revs into sludgy, psyched-out-of-the-mind grunge, slamming into life like parachuting two grams of MDMA and walking down the street waiting for the kick. You’re not quite ready for it, and it will push you against a wall, stealing your eardrums and wallet.
The relentless onslaught of drums and vocals, paired with the acid trip motor rock tone gives everything an uncomfortable feeling, which is very good news for people who like their psych and grunge vile and evil. The level of production, pacing, and acetone vocals are a step in the right direction for the band, seeing the band progressing past previous lower quality recordings and moving into territory that still stays true to their brand of fucked up while managing to deliver more punch.
Seething, foaming, scary, and very, very pissed off, this band has the makings of an act that will deliver the goods to all fans of alt grunge that wish everyone was dead.
Run Time: 2:57
