FIELD TRIP 2017: 5 Bands that Will Perform New Music at Field Trip
PureGrainAudio came up with this in no way definitive list of artists whose sets will be a “Must See” at Field Trip for fans looking to hear brand new songs, that aren’t already in steady rotation on their play lists.
Many of the artists playing Field Trip at Fort York and Garrison Common in Toronto will be testing out new tunes. This year’s event promises to be exciting for fans of the bands and artists on the bill as many of them will be performing music from their new or forthcoming albums. PureGrainAudio came up with this in no way definitive (but you might as well listen to us) list of artists whose sets will be a “must-see” for fans looking to hear brand new songs, that aren’t already in steady rotation on their playlists.
01. Feist
– Easily one of the most anticipated artists on the bill, this will be one of the first times that Leslie Feist will perform songs from her new album in six years, Pleasures. Outside of a few intimate dates, the event will give fans first chance to catch her performing songs on a large stage. The new album finds Feist building on the warm and natural sound of her 2011 Polaris Prize-nominated effort Metals.
02. Broken Social Scene
– Feist won’t be the only band unveiling new music after an extended hiatus. Broken Social Scene, a band she’s also a part of, unveiled a new single, “Halfway Home” in 2017, their first new music since their 2010 effort Forgiveness Rock Record and the occasional festival appearance. Field Trip will be the first of many live dates leading up to the release of their new album in the fall of 2017, title and release date TBA.
03. Portugal, The Man
– “Bands That Haven’t Released New Music in Years” could be the unofficial theme of the 2017 edition of Field Trip. June 16, 2017 will see the release of Portugal, The Man‘s Mike D (Beastie Boys) produced Woodstock, their first new music since their 2013 album Evil Friends. They have kept busy in the interim collaborating with Yoko Ono and providing fans with regular updates via their socials.
04. Phoenix
– Out of all the headliners at Field Trip, Phoenix have kept things the most mysterious. In March, they provided fans with a 30 second teaser of new music via their socials and at the end of April, they announced that their new album Ti Amo, the follow-up to their 2013 effort Bankrupt!
05. Timber Timbre
– Toronto’s Timber Timbre‘s new album Sincerely, Future Pollution hit shelves on April 7 and they’re already touring behind it but Field Trip will present Toronto area fans with the first chance to hear music from their sixth album. “Sewer Blues” and “Velvet Gloves & Spit” were released as singles in early 2017.
Some of the other artists who will be performing music from recently released albums or EPs at Field Trip include Tei Shi, Cloud Nothings, Thundercat, Overcoats, Nefe, Bernice and Walrus.
