Voivod – “Build Your Weapons: The Very Best of The Noise Years 1986-1988” [Album Review]
One of the earliest of Canadian thrash pioneers, recalls some of their greatest earlier battles in Build Your Weapons: The Very Best of The Noise Years 1986-1988.
Noise, you’ve had decades, what gives? As a long-time fan, I seriously don’t get this collection or package. Brought to you by BMG, this is the “K-Tel version” Greatest Hits for metalheads; for newer fans with little to no knowledge of the band’s critical years. So, you would get this because it would be a good starting point of their real gems. As a collector piece to fill any gaps though, this isn’t necessary at all.
Any real fans, you should seriously have had all of these for a long time now. More-or-less every track from Killing Technology, RRROOOAAARRR, and Dimension Hatross is here. Where is “This Is Not An Exercise” or “To The Death”? “Cosmic Drama” is not here either? Seems some people’s idea of “Best Of” varies drastically.
Mind you, this collection isn’t bad by any means, it’s just what it is. Voivod is an amazing, pioneering band by every standard and this is a very good intro for newcomers. That said, with actual extended reissues coming out for each album soon enough, the faithful die-hards should know where to go.
