Twist are premiering the video for new song “Calendar Girls.” The track comes from the band’s 2016 album Spectral which was released on Buzz Records last fall. The video was directed by Brittany Lucas and Jacq Andrade and takes place at a house party with running subtitles that explore the inner monologues of the guests as they interact over the course of the evening.
In the song, frontwoman Laura Hermiston examines objectification and the way it warps personal relationships. Hermiston recently commented to Noisey, “Calendar Girls’ is a reflection on how people treat each other like products, in relationships and otherwise. I was thinking about men’s magazines and how the way women are objectified creates a mentality where romantic and sexual relationships become a form of consumption. Sometimes it feels like the drive to acquire material possessions and the desire to be with someone gets somehow mixed up. It changes how you appreciate the people in your life when society encourages you to form superficial infatuations with people you’ve never met.”
The band are currently on tour and will be playing SXSW shows with Jimmy Eat World, Weaves and Casper Skulls later this week. Full details can be found below.
