Album Review
Cold Blue Mountain – ‘Cold Blue Mountain’ [Album Review]
I have to admit, I was not expecting much from Cold Blue Mountain. The band’s name brought to mind images of a beer commercial with a country theme, and the album art well… it also made me think country. So, even though the description of the album was doom/sludge metal, I was in fact expecting some sort of countrified rock through a metal lens, or something like that.
However this was obviously not the case and Cold Blue Mountain fell victim to not judging a book (or album) by its cover, or name for that matter. Instead of country, the band’s self titled album is most definitely sludge (in the vein of Rwake) with a few nods to early Baroness and at times even 90s-era alternative metal.
Oftentimes the riffs on this album completely kill and will certainly have sludge metal fans banging their heads with enthusiasm – while also not being too sludgy that non genre fans won’t like ’em either. Overall, a solid debut from a new band that will hopefully make additional great albums in the future. Check them out on Bandcamp and then give the release a buy.
