Recreate The Sun – “Recreate The Sun” [EP]
Recreate The Sun’s self-titled debut EP is really something that I should hate: A cross between djent and mellow death with some industrial sounds thrown in for good measure. All of those genres, (if you couldn’t guess) I normally hate. However, for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on, I like it.
Maybe it’s because unlike most bands who play those styles of music, there is no cheesiness involved here. Maybe it’s because the band doesn’t try to be all brutal and technical for brutality or technicality’s sake. Maybe because unlike those genres, the band doesn’t sound like they are just trying their best to get commercial attention. Or, maybe it’s all of the above.
What I do know is that where most djent bands lose me is that the music seems repetitive and devoid of any actual attempt at playing something that non-musicians would actually enjoy. Recreate The Sun however have hooks aplenty that will keep me, and the average Joe metalhead, coming back for more. Solid EP, and I look forward to hearing more from these guys in the future.
