Gear Review: SS-Kaliert guitarist Benny Whitley on his Sparrow Rat Rod Guitar
I recently spoke with Benny Whitley, guitarist of the hardcore punk band SS-Kaliert to discuss the one piece of gear he uses to obtain that raw, powerful Punk guitar sound. Turns out his Sparrow Rat Rod guitar is the right tool for the job. Here’s what Dave had to say about it.

What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Benny: Sparrow Rat Rod left-handed guitar.
What about it makes it so important to you?
Benny: It’s handmade and custom hand-painted with the SS-Kaliert Logo on the neck and on the corpus (body). Also the mechanics never get out of tune, no matter how hard I rock.
What are the major pros and cons?
Benny: Pros are the sound, the great art and the mechanics. Cons are that the paint started chipping off pretty quickly on the back and side of it.
How long have you had it, how do you use it, would you ever change it?
Benny: I’ve had it since October 2008, I use it left handed and almost at every show. I don’t see a reason why I should change it.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear?
Benny: SarrowGuitars.com – great brand, but they should customize paint guitars again!
