Greg Preston and The Great Machine – “Leave The Light On” [Free Download]
Nailing down a specific sound is a common complaint for musicians, and not an easily rectified one. This said, you have got to check out Greg Preston and The Great Machine and their crazy debut EP Hate to Love the City.
The Skinny: Nailing down a specific sound is a common complaint for musicians, and not an easily rectified one. This said, you have got to check out Greg Preston and The Great Machine and their crazy debut EP Hate to Love the City.
The band set out to produce music that had a commonality with older classic garage and 4-piece bands; raw and indebted to the reckless nature of their live performances. This said, the band took a similar approach when recording their EP in that they taped it live off the floor. No these gents didn’t use any click tracks or multiple takes, instead they filtered their sounds through a mountain of analogue courtesy of producer Michael Keire (Wildlife, Dark Mean, Apostle of Hustle).
Whether you want to classify them or not (think garage rock, noise and blues all mashed up), you really don’t need to. Why? Because the bottom line is that this band rocks! I’d call them the modern day John Spencer Blues Explosion, but again, I’d be classifying them. Grab the rest of their EP for free RIGHT HERE.
