Album Review
The Hottness
Stay Classy (2008)
The debut album from the Wilmington, NC band hooks you in from the first drum smack and guitar thwang. I found it incredibly difficult to shut off these tunes. Everyone, especially music connoisseurs, are sick of bands coming out with tired, banal pop music, and are always searching for refreshing, new sounds.
Track one, “Straight Brown”, has to be my favourite because it opens the album with a bang. It gives off a we-rock-and-we’re-here-to-stay type of vibe.
The Hottness may be genre mates with Alexisonfire, but the Wilmington crew sound totally different and more powerful than their St. Catharine’s counterparts. The Hottness’ distinct approach to music sets them apart from other bands in same scene.
I’m stoked that there is finally something that isn’t along the lines of pop/indie-punk to review for this website, and I’m totally thrilled that I picked The Hottness. They have, aptly, a hot sound. Good work gang! Recommended for fans of Queens of the Stone Age, Every Time I Die, Maylene and The Sons of Disaster. [ END ]
