The IWCC presents the 2nd annual T.O. Webfest May 22nd to the 24th to support, connect, promote and celebrate independent content creators from Canada and around the world.
For those unaware, (IWCC) The Independent Web Series Creators of Canada is a nationwide non-profit association of web series creators who seek to support, promote and bring awareness to independent and creator-driven, audience-focused web series in Canada and internationally.
A couple of weeks ago I was invited to hang out on set during promo shoots for the Webfest and was able to talk to creators, actors, organizers, and crew about how important an event like this is. It fosters the ability to meet artists from around the world, work on collaborations, share ideas and find out what works and what doesn’t in an artistic world that is still developing and has very few rules and limitations.
Joining the leagues of similar webfests around the world such as LA, Melbourne, Vancouver New York and Marseilles, this year’s event promises a three day festival offering engaging panels and workshops, special events, awards and free public web series screenings.
The festival is broken down into Industry Day (Saturday) and Creator’s Day (Sunday). A highlight is definitely the T.O Webfest awards, which will be held Saturday night at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema. Screenings are organized by genre and feature a wide array of themes including comedy, documentary, family, drama, sci-fi & fantasy and many LGBTQ selections.
