Dead Freights Mash-Up Two Classics on Premiere of New Single & Video “Call Me On The Wildside”
Rising indie stars Dead Freight mash up two classics for their new single “Call Me On The Wildside”. Check out the premiere here…
Rising indie-rock outfit Dead Freights returns with a brand new track, “Call Me On The Wildside,” lifted from the upcoming debut album due in April 2024 on Gary Powell‘s (The Libertines) 25 Hour Convenience Store Records.
Following on from the recent single, “How Much To Call My Daddy,” which V13 premiered here, “Call Me On The Wildside” is more pure, unadulterated hi-octane rock and roll. The single also sees the band put their own twist on Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wildside” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.”
The video is equally as crazy as the concept. Shot on their phones at a karaoke night in a local council pub, it was filmed impromptu, and the locals in there had no idea what was going on, especially when singer Charlie started singing in his fish net lingerie and makeup.
The band says:
“Our new single ‘Call Me Wildside’ is a mash-up of two classic hits filtered through their distinct brand of scuzzy rock n’ roll. Just as Lou Reed paired curb-side narratives with pop sensibilities, so do we in merging Reed’s own ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ and Carly Rae Jepsen’s millennial smash hit ‘Call Me Maybe’.”
On the impromptu video, the rockers had this to say:
“This daring combo is matched with an equally provocative music video, whereupon frontman Charlie mimics Holly’s hitchhiked trip from Miami, FL to confront a council estate pub with a cross-dressing performance.”
With two breathtaking singles already under their belt, we’re still a little way off their debut album in 2024. Don’t worry, though; the band hopes to take you on a journey of discovery that will eventually lead you to their album launch, and, quite frankly, we can’t wait to see what is next…
Dead Freights will release their debut album in January 2024, and until then, keep up with all their news via their Official Instagram Page.
