The Americans Premiere Their Rootsy New Single, “Kingdom”
Enjoy the distinctive rock n’ roll of The Americans who, today, premiere their brand new single, “Kingdom,” off their upcoming ‘Strays’ EP, due out on July 21st.
Diversity in music is certainly a good thing and one of the perks of living in the 2020s, but it’s always reassuring to hear the distinctive rock n’ roll of bands like The Americans. You’ll understand what we mean with the trio’s brand new single, “Kingdom,” off their upcoming Strays EP, coming on July 21st.
Regarding “Kingdom,” The Americans frontman Patrick Ferris comments:
“‘Kingdom’ is a song about love turning from devotion to servitude. We’ve been waiting a long time to put this out. It’s the second single from our upcoming EP Strays.”
With its very likable guitar riff, driving beat, and charming vocals, “Kingdom” is a tone-setter, not just for this album, but also for The Americans as a band. It really encapsulates that Americana and Roots rock influence that essentially made them want to play music in the first place. The dynamics of the group harken back to the days when rock was more closely aligned with blues and country music. When there wasn’t such a wide gap between these genres, it wasn’t even really considered. All that was important was the quality of the songs, not the categorization.
Based in Los Angeles, The Americans are proud of the music they grew up on, and they want to spread that joy to young listeners who may be less familiar with roots-based music. They gained popularity with their 2017 record, I’ll Be Yours, and its follow-up, last year’s Stand True, and they are carrying that working-class spirit forward with this record. Ferris’ vocals are so skillfully backed by the fiery guitar riffs from Zac Sokolow and the bass grooves from Jake Faulkner. Strays sits somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Nathaniel Rateliff as a set of songs, joining the classic and the modern together.
If you like some heritage and tradition to your rock n’ roll, you’re going to feel right at home in the hands of The Americans.
