The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre held the first North American date for “The First Time Tour” from Australian singer and rapper The Kid Laroi. For the night of Saturday, May 18th, the arena, Located in UBC ground, was almost at capacity and fans were ready to sing along.

The night started with R&B singer Chase Shakur from Atlanta. The Singer opened his set with his song “I Don’t Wanna Fall in Love… It’s Too Late Now,” from his first album, It’ll Be Fine. Chase delighted the crowd with his melodic voice while his DJ hyped up the crowd.

Glaive was the second one to perform. The multi-talented artist describes his style of music as straight-up pop songs but is more like a mix of everything plus his highly emotional lyrics. He opened his set with “If U Love Me Now Then Shoot to Kill” and performed a total of 13 songs from his discography.

The Kid Laroi came to the stage a few minutes late, but he apologized to his fans for that as soon as he could, and he more than made it up for the fans with his performance. He came wearing a Vancouver Canuks personalized Jersey with the number one on the front and his name on the back.

His set is very interesting as he divides it into 4 acts, all with different feelings. He started his set with “Sorry,” the first song of his latest album, The First Time. After his 4th song, “Tragic,” he shouted out Vancouver legend Nardwuar, who was somewhere in the crowd, and that means we should be expecting an interview soon.

Throughout his set the singer had many interactions with his fans, in one of them he was telling the fans that on the previous day, he went out to enjoy this beautiful city and visited Stanley Park and mentioned that he was falling in love with the city.

For his 7th song, he performed an unreleased one called “Girls,” which, based on the fans’ reaction, did not look unreleased at all because everybody was singing it word by word. He had a 21-song-long regular set closing with “What Just Happened” but had to return to the stage for the encore to sing “What Went Wrong” and “Stay.”
