Dead Pony – ‘Ignore This’ [Album Review]
Transforming their live energy onto record, Scotland‘s Dead Pony have delivered an absolute banger of a debut in ‘Ignore This.’
Glaswegian quartet Dead Pony are a band who have been tearing it up across the UK for the last eighteen months or so. Building up a reputation as a fearsome live act thanks to sweaty club gigs and raucous festival sets, it’s time now for the Glasgow mob to transfer that infectious energy down on tape for their debut album.
Now, where some bands fail to translate that energy onto record, Ignore This finds Dead Pony has had no problem. Hitting every spot, Dead Pony has delivered an album that simply explodes. A huge slab of modern rock with adrenaline pulsing through every vein, the likes of “MK Nothing” are full of stabby guitars, ridiculous hooks and Anna Shield’s attitude-riddled vocals.
The rest of the album follows suit. “About Love” is simply a sublime slice of melodic pop that builds up into a stomping, anthemic rocker, whereas “COBRA” has a venomous bite bubbling away underneath that pristine, sugary exterior. An album that grows and grows with each track, Ignore This exudes the kind of confidence the band has shown in their live shows. Even though this is still a band very much in its infancy, the punchy power of tracks like “MANA” demonstrates that this is a band that knows they are on the cusp of becoming huge.
Rightfully so, as well. The band knows how to put on an unforgettable live show. As Ignore This shows, they know how to write not one but a whole slew of earworms and their big, bombastic, energetic sounds transfer effortlessly between both environments with no loss of capturing what this band is all about.
“I need your full attention…” announces Shields during “I might die.” Oh, you have it, Anna, you and Dead Pony very much have it.
