The Canadian West Coast was the centre of country music for two days – we reported on that here.

On the first Coast City Country Festival, the BC Place in Vancouver, BC, country fans from all over Canada’s West Coast met to dance and sing along on April 19th and 20th. The festival had two stages, the main one inside and a secondary one outside of the BC place at the Robson Roundup and 22 artists.

For the first day, the lineup was as follows: for the main stage opening was Carter Faith, Chayce Beckham, Nate Smith, Elle King, Walker Hayes, Bailey Zimmerman and Nickelback. At the Robson Roundup stage were Cameron Whitcomb, Kylie Morgan, DJ Paisley Eva and Cooper Alan.

For the second day on the main stage were Alli Walker, Dylan Marlowe, Josh Ross, Brett Young, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan. At the Robson Roundup stage were Dalton Dover, Alana Springsteen, Niko Moon, DJ JT James.

Day One

Carter Faith, who was a first timer for the Vancouver fans, performed a few of her most popular songs like Cowboy Forever, Greener Pasture and Man. The North Carolina native showed an amazing presence and great vocals to the Vancouverites.

Next up was Chayce Beckham. The winner of the 19th season of American Idol, delighted the fans with his voice performing his big hits 23, Keeping Me Up All Night and others.

Nate Smith, coming all the way from Nashville, TN, brought his great energy and heated up the crowd with his song World on Fire. He was flowing on the stage, putting on a show and engaging with the fans who were singing along with all his songs.

Elle King came to the stage with her imponent presence. The four-time Grammy Award nominee delighted the crowd with her with her beautiful and energetic vocals. She performed some of the most noticeable songs like Ex’s & Oh’s, Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home) and Ain’t Country By Choice.

The night was heating up, and Walker Hayes hopped on the stage. His performance was different from the others, as he brought a four-piece dance crew with him that danced to the rhythm of his viral son Fancy Like and Y’all Life.

Baily Zimmerman was the next up. The 24-year-old from Louisville, Illinois, put on a show and had the crowd screaming. The multi-platinum artist, who has had 3 number 1 country songs in Canada, Fall in Love, Rock and a Hard Place and Religiously couldn’t perform on Canadian soil without singing his biggest songs in the country. Zimmerman presentation was really good and showed that he is country superstar.

There couldn’t be a more suitable closer for this night than Nickelback, but wait, Nickelback is a Rock band, they don’t do country, right? That is correct but is Canada and we love them. They had a magnificent show full of pyrotechnics and interaction with the crowd. Half bra made it to the stage while many were flashing Chad as he was talking with the fans. With them was Josey Scott, former lead singer of the rock band Saliva, doing backup vocals and covered “Hero” with Chad. For “Rockstar,” they call Josh Ross to the stage so he can help them with the song, and Josh was wearing a Canuks sweater to show the city love.

Nickelback performed a total of 15 songs, 2 of them “Gotta Be Somebody” and “Burn it to the Ground” as part of the encore.

Day Two

We missed the first 3 performances due to a schedule conflict, Alli Walker, Dylan Marlowe and Josh Ross who performed in Vancouver about 3 months ago, but this night was as exciting as the first one.

When Brett Young took the stage, the crowd went crazy. He performed some of his classics like “Mercy,” “Like I Love You,” “Here Tonight,” You Ain’t Here to Kiss Me” and others. The fans sang all of his songs and enjoyed his performance.

Dierks Bently brought his Gravel and Gold tour set to the show. He opened his set with “Gold,” followed by “I Hold On” and “Living.” They closed their regular set with “Drunk on a Plane” and then transformed into a whole new band, Hot Country Knights. Hot Country Knights’ performance was hilarious, the band outfit changed, and they were wearing wigs and fanny packs and throwing condoms to the crowd. Something that we could have enjoyed for a full set with no problems.

The night was coming to an end, but not without enjoying the amazing Luke Bryan. He went on a roll and performed a total of 26 songs, and it felt like nothing as everybody was enjoying each one, then and all of his interaction with the fans. He opened with “Kick the Dust Up,” followed by “Knockin’ Boots.” The 20th song was “One Margarita,” and they brought him a huge glass of margarita that Luke ended up giving to one of his fans. In the middle of his performance, Bryan fell on the stage after stepping on a loose cell phone. He made fun of the situation and grabbed another phone from a fan who was recording the performance, and he showed the fall to everyone in the stadium.

The Coast City Country Festival was a pure display of some of Country’s best stars, and hopefully, the organizers are already working on next year’s line-up and dates because this festival is something all the West Coast region will definitely enjoy yearly.
