Saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia released her newest single, “Fortify.” On the track, Garcia’s languid, sweeping saxophone melody floats above syncopated rhythms, punctuated by shimmering piano and keyboard accents provided by the members of her acclaimed quartet: Daniel Casimir (double bass), Deschanel Gordon (organ, piano, Rhodes, Nord), and Sam Jones (drums).

Garcia remarked:

“This tune is about searching and seeking ways to protect and strengthen yourself within the disruption and chaos of life sometimes. It’s about working out what you are trying to protect in your worlds; about creating safe spaces and practices to let go of your stresses, and to elevate the joy within those spaces and practices.”

Garcia has emerged as one of the leading lights of London’s burgeoning jazz scene as a bandleader, composer, and solo recording artist.

Recently, she headlined a tour of the US and the UK, which included sold-out appearances at venues including Le Poisson Rouge, The Ford, and the Salt Shed, and graced festival stages at Glastonbury, Newport Jazz, Love Supreme, and Pickathon. Additionally, Garcia toured the United States in support of Khruangbin and performed at sold-out venues, including New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, and The Met in Philadelphia.

Her work has been celebrated in the pages of The New York Times Ebony, and Vogue. Garcia’s compositions have also been heard on television programs, including Ted Lasso and Atlanta, as well as Epic Games‘ global phenomenon, Fortnite.
