Les Biches Premiere Their Phantasmagoric Music Video for “The White Shape of Noise”
Les Biches debuts their phantasmagoric music video for “The White Shape of Noise,” which underscores the hallucinogenic sensation of the music.
Psych-rock outfit Les Biches unveils their music video, “The White Shape of Noise,” a track from their recently released album, The Mysteries, which is wistful rather than brooding.
According to songwriter Keith Joyner, “For me, there is a distinction between conveying a profound sadness and acknowledging that we inhabit a sad and beautiful world. I tend to focus on the idea that life inevitably includes suffering along with fleeting moments of joy. And recent experience has really hammered that home.”
The band’s name – Les Biches – was borrowed from the song by Jaques Brel and the 1968 French film Claude Chabrol’s Les Biches.
Made up of Joyner, Chris Candelaria (bass), Dusty Starr (guitars), and Kevin Pinnt (drums), Les Biches initially began as the collaborative project of Joyner but converged in a band in the aftermath of endeavours to reunite two ’90s L.A. bands, Revolux and Chihuahua. Despite being unsuccessful, some of the members wanted to continue.
“I think it has been good mental exercise for all of us to get into a room and play,” says Joyner. “And that’s how this collection of songs was recorded. It was our goal to capture that history that we share and lend the recordings the unspeakable live energy of those two bands.”
For some reason, “The White Shape of Noise” conjures up suggestions of Pink Floyd and Procol Harum with its kaleidoscopic echoes and dreamy vocals, transporting listeners back to a time when music unpacked numerous, nebulous axes of migratory textures. The phantasmagoric video underscores the hallucinogenic sensation of the music.
