Globus x A.D.A.M. – “Ordinary Man” [Song Review]
Magnificently wrought musically and visually, “Ordinary Man” delivers a superb audio-visual experience, poignant and momentous.
Globus and A.D.A.M. recently released their single/music video, “Ordinary Man,” a song from their forthcoming debut collaborative album, Unforgiven, slated to drop in March.
A.D.A.M. is made up of singer TD Lind and songwriter Danny McGaw, while Globus is the musical identity of composer-arranger-producer Yoav Goren, architect of the band’s expansive, cinematic style, which he calls “epic music.”
Known for penning and producing the explosive trailer music for some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters of all time: Avatar, Lord Of The Rings, Spiderman, The Pirates Of The Caribbean, and the Harry Potter series, Yoav Goren is one of the original pioneers of the trailer music genre.
The cinematic aspect of Unforgiven — which Goren likens to films such as No Country for Old Men and Hell and High Water — echoes throughout the striking first video from the album. Directed by Thomas Trail, “Ordinary Man” features the stellar performance and powerful presence of vocalist Lind.
McGaw wrote most of the album’s 11 songs, with Goren and Lind contributing one song each. Recorded in McGaw’s home studio in Ojai, California, and Goren’s studio in Santa Monica — Unforgiven revolves around a conceptual narrative that follows its anti-hero, also known as A.D.A.M., as he battles his way toward love and redemption.
“Ordinary Man” opens with emerging, majestic tones, followed by the entry of Lind’s deliciously gravelly voice, conjuring up suggestions of Johnny Cash and, on the higher notes, the voice of Klaus Meine. Rumbling drums drive the mid-tempo rhythm as layered strings infuse the melody with evocative, alluring gravitas and dense, brooding passions.
The video depicts a nameless, forgotten man wandering the earth, seeking absolution, restoration, and a way to find meaning. Lind’s performance hits viewers viscerally, producing feelings of empathy.
Magnificently wrought musically and visually, “Ordinary Man” delivers a superb audio-visual experience, poignant and momentous.
