Damn! With “Music Man,” Jules takes alt-rock by the horns and wrestles it into submission with beaucoup aplomb and bravura.

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Jules unveils her new single, “Music Man,” an alt-rock/pop anthem about staying true to who you are as an artist and trusting in your vision and creativity.

Jules arrived on the music scene in a big way in 2018 with the release of “Before You Picked Her,” a track from her album People Watching. The song hit the Top 40 on Canadian charts. The 2020 DH Remix of “Sirens” also produced a Top 40 single.

When the global pandemic appeared, Jules put all plans on hold indefinitely. In the fall of 2020, with restrictions still firmly in place, she recorded three new songs with acclaimed producer Brian Moncarz. Joining the artist on these recordings were Duncan Coutts, Jason Pearce, and Ben Healey.

“Music Man” opens on dark, vibrating tones topped by vibrant ooh-ooh accents and then flows into a muscular alt-rock tune reminiscent of Pat Benatar, dyed with smidgins of Avril Lavigne pop-rock. The vast primitive power of Jules’ deep voice imbues the lyrics with fierce, wild energy.

Colored by savage, almost erotic timbres, and a cambered resonance that’s cruelly delicious, Jules’ electrifying voice immediately establishes her as one of the premier female vocalists extant.
