Electronic music maverick Slighter returns with the new single, “Pulling Me Under,” featuring Craig Joseph Huxtable (Ohm, Landscape Body Machine, Front Line Assembly, Noise Unit) on vocals. Harkening back to the excitement of those days when synthpop became darker and meshed with what was then labelled as “alternative music,” US-based electronic artist Slighter has re-emerged with this dark delight

That was a golden era, which saw the relatively more attractive beginnings of Ministry and the emergence of a whole array of characters on the music scene, including Section 25, Anne Clarke, Front Line Assembly, Attrition, Nitzer Ebb and Front 242, among others. Since that time, however, the world of dark electronica has gotten even broader in scope, spanning from ambient, darkwave electro to dark techno, EBM and synthwave – numerous sub-genres of which Slighter manages to cleverly explore and master.

Out this week digitally via the artist’s own imprint Confusion Inc., this dark, penetrating and lush single follows the lead single “Have No Fear,” featuring two tracks, much like a traditional A-side and B-side.

Previewing the forthcoming album This Futile Engine, out on Scandinavia’s Brutal Resonance Records next month, “Pulling Me Under” is a natural progression of Slighter and Craig Joseph Huxtable’s earlier collaborations – “Give Me” (2019) and “Lights Out,” as heard on FOX’s Second Chance in 2016.

Craig Joseph Huxtable comments on the song, stating:

“For me, lyrics-wise, ‘Pulling Me Under’ is all about being locked in a battle with the self, combating depression and negative thinking. The narrative shift back and forth as the song progresses like a fight for the survival of one’s psyche.”

As of June 28, “Pulling Me Under” will be available as a digital download, followed by “This Futile Engine” on July 21, which will be released as a Deluxe Edition CD and also digitally. It can be ordered directly from Brutal Resonance via Bandcamp.
