Montreal Post-Punks Your ex and I Unveil Their Self-Titled EP
Montreal’s provocatively entitled Your ex and I captures the sounds of the original British invasion and later post-punk artists in their self-produced EP ‘YXNI.’
Montreal’s provocatively entitled Your ex and I captures the sounds of the original British invasion and later post-punk artists in YXNI. Their self-produced EP is an ode to heartbreak, longing and depression.
The creative chemistry between the five musically experienced members shines, acknowledging influences such as The Beatles, The Police, The Pixies, and Arctic Monkeys. The result is a tasty mix of melody and muscle that is dark yet danceable, polished yet never too slick. The combination of ’80s synth lines, fat bass hooks, driving indie rock guitars, and the skillful use of both vintage analog and modern instruments and recording gear is an irresistible one.
The band comments:
“What if you found out your girlfriend has been secretly dating her ex for two years? The song ‘Heartbreaker by Design’ exposes the true story behind our singer’s discovery of an ex’s double life – from deleted emails to made up receipts for so-called business trips. How much would you look the other way to stay ‘happy?’”
