James (w/ Badly Drawn Boy) @ Scarborough Open Air Theatre (Scarborough, UK) on August 18, 2018 [Photos & Show Review]
Indie favourites James brought an impressive summer run of gigs in Scarborough to a magical conclusion and you can check out our review and photos here…
So, the Summer run comes to an end at Scarborough Open Air Theatre and, after the previous nights circus that was Britney Spears, it was left to indie favourites James to bring the curtain down on what has been an incredible Summer of events at this stunning outdoor venue.
As we arrive at the venue Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is just finishing his set to a venue that is still only half full with there still plenty of fans pouring in as Badly Drawn Boy takes to the stage. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a set of very personal songs like “In Safe Hands”, the singer-songwriter provides a more than enjoyable soundtrack to the early evening calm.
By the time James take to the stage, the sun has set over the Scarborough Open Air Theatre and it is left to Tim Booth and his band mates to put on a suitably special show to bring this season of gigs to an end. Thankfully they do just that with a 16-song set that captures everything that is wonderful about this band. Opening with “Extraordinary Times” James soon have the Scarborough crowd rocking so much so that, by song three, “Better Than That”, the frontman has joined them making this evening a little more special for those fans hogging the barrier.
Speaking of special, when the band slow it down for an emotional rendition of “Coming Home (Pt 2)” and an absolutely jaw-dropping acoustic version of hit single “Sit Down”, you look around you and wonder to yourself just how the organisers are going to top this next Summer because, after the past few months and this finale, they’ve set themselves a hard task to follow.
