Taking The Head Of Goliath – “Taking The Head Of Goliath” [Album Review]
Out on Rottweiler Records, Taking the Head of Goliath’s self-titled debut makes you want to ball your fists up and punch walls, kick the cat, and, if listening in your car, bang you head on the steering wheel.
The ominous intro to this self-titled record by Taking The Head Of Goliath starts out innocently enough, without even a foreshadowing of the battering that is to come. Honestly, I am not sure there is a way to prepare for it, because once opener “Oblivious Into Oblivion” kicks in, the pandemonium begins. This is music that makes you want to ball your fists up and punch walls, kick the cat, and, if listening in your car, bang you head on the steering wheel; it’s that heavy, I mean like two-tonne anvil heavy stuff.
The overall production is great, with guitars that are big, taught, and over-driven, a massive low end, and drums that sound like a jackhammer cutting through the madness. Squeals, guttural growls, and other worldly grunts abound and are sure to please brutal death metal fans everywhere. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the stunning artwork on this record, which is worth the price of admission alone. The depiction of a young David holding the bloody head of Goliath while an army of soldiers looks on is detailed and really quite amazing.
I just can’t get past how heavy, fast (like speed of light fast), kick butt, melt your face, take no prisoners, and relentlessly punishing this record really is. If brutal death metal is your thing, then I am certain you will dig Taking the Head of Goliath.
