Book Review
“Hendrix: The Illustrated Story” by Gillian G. Gaar [Book Review]
Are you a big fan of Jimi Hendrix? If the answer is yes, no need to read further than this paragraph — just buy this book.
Are you a big fan of Jimi Hendrix? If the answer is yes, no need to read further than this paragraph — just buy this book. Hendrix: The Illustrated Story is an authoritative hardcover biography, going into depth about Hendrix’s full life and career, and also including almost 200 images related to the legendary guitarist. Plenty to read and also much to look at. The book cover alone is spectacular, a blacklight-friendly illustration of Hendrix with a fuzzy texture.
Why is Hendrix: The Illustrated Story not a 10 out of 10 in terms of my rating for PureGrainAudio? As far as I can tell, there is nothing exclusive about this book, aside from gathering some contributors from other journalists (e.g. Harvey Kubernick, Dave Hunter, Jaan Uhelszki).
The story of Jimi Hendrix has been told plenty of times, as the guitarist passed on over 45 years ago. However, author Gillian G. Gaar — who has also written great books on Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, and The Doors — presents everything in a concise manner, arguably making this “the” book to pick up on Jimi Hendrix if you do not already have others in your collection.
Yet another worthwhile rock-themed release from Quarto imprint Voyageur Press, as made for your coffee table…
