New York’s alternative genre-defying quartet, Tribe Society, dropped their new mixtape, 27, on April 5th in honour of the anniversary of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s death. The reason for the ode to Cobain? The album’s seven cover tracks each take on a classic jam from members of the infamous 27 club. More info below, but without further ado, please download, stream, and share the cover of Canned Heat’s “On the Road Again”.
27 features very unique covers of singles from Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, The Doors, Canned Heat, Fat Pat, Janis Joplin, and of course Nirvana. Gavin Merlot (vocals/guitar), Seth Hachen (flute/keyboard), Brad Alderman (keyboard) and Phil Boucher (drums) have done a phenomenal job with this album which you can stream in full HERE, or purchase your own copy RIGHT HERE.
Commented vocalist/guitarist Gavin Merlot of the song: “Canned Heat wrote a somber anthem to the hardships of constantly being out on the road away from family, loved ones and entrenched in loneliness. We thought let’s take the solemn somber sentiments from the original and turn them into screaming angry frustrations via a brooding building verse that exploded into aggressive guitars and yells.”
