The New York-based hardcore act Pro-Pain have just completed work on their latest offering The Final Revolution and I was able to sit down and chat with frontman and bassist Gary Meskil about his favorite piece of gear. Here is how the conversation regarding his Musicman Stingray 5 Bass Guitar went.
What one piece of gear do you use to obtain your signature sound?
Meskill: Musicman Stingray 5 bass with Moses graphite replacement neck.
What about it makes it so important to you?
Meskill: The bass is extremely solid and heavy, and the graphite neck gives consistent low end throughout the fret board.
What are the major pros and cons?
Meskill: Pros: Tone. Untouchable low end and low end consistency. Cons: Heavy. Not for all styles, but good for metal and or modern rock.
How long have you had it, how do you use it, and would you ever change it?
Meskill: I’ve had it since the late 90s. I also own a 1976 and 1980 Stingray.
Any final thoughts or comments on the gear?
Meskill: I played a Musicman Stingray for the first time when I was a teenager, and I instantly fell in love with the tone. It is one of the highest regarded and most versatile basses on the market. I highly recommend it to any bassist.
